Our team at Pest & Termite Consultants knows that your home is important to you, and we want to help you keep it free of pests. One pest that is especially important to deal with when it appears is termites, as these nasty insects can do serious damage to your structures. In this article, we’ll go over a few signs of termite activity, so you can call for termite control services as soon as possible if these pests invade your home.
- Frass. Frass is the technical term for termite droppings, which are a clear sign that you have a termite infestation on your hands. These droppings resemble piles of sawdust, and they can usually be found at the entrances to termite tunnels. However, some termites, such as the subterranean termite, only leave droppings underground, where you won’t see them, so I’s important to be able to recognize additional signs of their presence.
- Hollow Wood. A sign of termite activity that applies to all species is wood that sounds hollow when tapped, as these insects eat wood from the inside out. If you knock on wood panels, floors, or furniture and hear an echo, or the wood feels too soft to your touch, then we encourage you to call our team for termite control services as soon as possible.
- Mud Tubes. A third sign that you need termite control services is mud tubes, which are tunnels made of dirt and termite saliva that these insects use to get around. You’ll typically see them around the foundations of your home.
